Anzac Day, April 2012

The Follett boys made us proud this Anzac Day.  We had a Kea, Cub and Scout all in the Parade and Ceremony.  The event started for William on the Tuesday night.  After dinner I dropped him down at the Den where he set up for some fun and a sleepover.  We met William at the Parade starting point.

There was lots of preparation in sewing badges on shirts and ironing the uniform.  (Mum even had to purchase three pairs of black pants so the boys could look nice in their uniforms.)

The different groups assembled at the parade starting point on the corner of Williams and Bracken Street.  It was a beautiful warm and sunny morning.  It was a perfect day to remember the soldiers who had gone away and fought in the war for us.

Daniel and the other Keas.

Jack lead the Scouts with Callum.

The officials lead the parade down Bracken street to the Anzac Memorial.

Our friend Josh Lloyd was in the ATC group.

Here is Luca Bushnell and the girl guides (Dan and Luca were great mates at kindy).

First come the Scouts ...
Here's Jack leading the parade alongside Tania Fraser (my bestest buddy right through school :))

then the Cubs ...
William was hard to photograph.  Every time I found him he seemed to disappear.

followed by the Keas...
Go Dan -you're marching so well.

Everyone did a fantastic job.  We all remembered those who hand gone to war and gave their lives for us. We also remembered those who had returned home and how their lives had changed forever.

Don't they look sharp!!!

Bike The Trail

Yes, the Follett family completed the Bike The Trail once again.  All the bikes were loaded on the car, tyres pumped and we were ready to leave Harcourt Park bang on 12pm.  It was such a georgous day; especially for a bike ride.

The ride is 25km long from Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt right down the river to the Petone Foreshore.  Jack sped ahead and completed the ride in 1.5 hours, meeting some new people alolng the way.  William and Olivia then made their way and Todd, Deirdre and Daniel followed.

The was a bit of a disaster as Daniel cut in front of Deirdre who ended up crashing off her bike in an effort to save Daniel from disaster and ended up with 'gravel burn' and chucks out of her knee and elbow.  Never mind ... keep on riding to Stokes Valley.  Pit stop at the ambulance for a clean up, then it was decided that Deirdre would take the easy ride in the ambluance to the finish line.  Perhaps the first person every to cross the finish line with paramedics on either side of her.  Not that the injury was that bad, we just ended up walking through the finish line together.

At the end there was free sausages, a band playing and give aways by the organisers.  We didn't win anything this year, but did get to hang out with the Gray and Wray families.

Looking forward to next years ride ... 2013 here we come.

Pikelets

William decided to make some pikelets for afternoon tea.  It was funny to see his face covered in flour.  He was concentrating so much he didn't even notice!

It was a yummy afternoon tea :)

Lift Riding With Granma

Exciting!??!  Granma called and invited Olivia and Jack to go lift riding.  Olivia agonised over the invitation as she didn't think she could handle the lifts (another story), so William and Daniel stood in for her.  Granma came and off they went to town on  LIFT RIDING mission.

"My favorite thing about lift riding was definitely going up to the 28th Floor.  It was really fun" said Jack.

"I went up to the 28th Floor and got lots of great pictures.  I looked down and felt cautious.  I saw 45 buses and lots of people.  I even saw someone eating a hamburger" said William.

Daniel said "I had a bagel, flavoured water and a brownie for lunch.  It was fun".

"I also enjoyed the spider (drink) that we got after we went lift riding" Jack said.  "My spider had coke and ice cream!"

Thanks Granma for a fun day.  Love Jack, William and Daniel xxx

School Working Bee

On Saturday we helped with the School Garden group.  The whole family came.  Some dug, some grubbered, collected seaweed, sorted turf and rocks, rotary-hoed and had a great time.  Thank you Catherine and team, it was great to be involved.

Last Skiing Day

The last day that the Follett's got out on their boat.  Here's Olivia on her wake board.

William's queuing up for a knee board.

Louie's first swim of the summer.  It's been a while since he's been to the sea and didn't remember not to drink the water! Or how to swim.

Jack's friend Johan was keen to try the toboggan and had a great time.  He'd not been out playing on a boat before (just fishing).
